“This was the first time that such a service had been offered for this type of work and the client was able to reap the benefits with significant financial and administrative savings.”
Energy generation has become one of the biggest issues for individuals, business and government today. And with natural resources rapidly depleting, it is more important than ever that current sources of energy are working to an optimum level and cost efficiently.
A power station of one of our clients was built as one of the world’s most advanced combined cycle natural gas-fired power stations. The plant is operated by our client and generates vital energy to the national grid – maintenance and repair work must be carried out to the highest standards, ensuring that there is no disruption to the functioning of the plant. We have undertaken work to overhaul cooling tower motors at their site. These expert engineers were able to create a bespoke plan for the power station that involved working concurrently on the cooling towers’ gearboxes. This dual offering meant that Deritend could carry out the work with minimum disruption to the plant.
Key benefits
Our client required 10 cooling tower motors to be overhauled in order to provide vital maintenance. This involved removing the motors from the site and reinstalling them once the overhaul had been completed.
Our engineers created a customised solution that would see work carried out simultaneously on the gearboxes.Throughout all of this activity, maintaining the highest health and safety standards was key. Prior to contacting us, the motors and gearboxes were the responsibility of different departments. This in turn meant using two separate contractors to undertake the work.
By taking on the project in its entirety, we were able to offer the following benefits:
- Our highly skilled engineers were able to use their vast expertise to deliver results of the utmost quality.
- Simultaneous work on both motors and gearboxes offered significant time and cost savings.
- Disruption to the plant’s ongoing function was minimised.
- The amount of health and safety documentation required was reduced, simplifying the administrative process.
By using our trained engineers, the highest standards were maintained. In offering a bespoke service to undertake this work, we once again set ourselves apart from its competitors. This was the first time that such a service had been offered for this type of work and the client was able to reap the benefits with significant financial and administrative savings, ensuring that the vital energy generation at our client’s station can continue unhindered.
